The Challenge

Our client runs an online store selling laptops, desktops and computer accessories in a market where shoppers compare prices across multiple retailers before buying. They needed a Google Ads setup that could pull in high intent buyers without eating margins on a category where every dollar of ad spend matters.

Our Approach

We built out the account across Search and Google Shopping, with Shopping doing most of the heavy lifting since product listing ads dominate ecommerce buying behavior. That meant getting the Merchant Center feed clean, writing product titles that match how people actually search for laptops and configuring campaigns to prioritize products with the strongest margins and highest conversion potential.

On the tracking side we implemented purchase conversion tracking through Google Tag Manager, capturing both the conversion event and the transaction value so every optimization decision is based on real revenue signals rather than clicks or add to carts.

Once live we ran continuous optimization on bids, product priorities, negative keywords and search term reports. Products that were burning budget without converting got paused. Products with strong conversion rates got prioritized.

The Results

Over the campaign period the account delivered:

  • 34,700 clicks
  • 2.38 million impressions
  • 258 purchases
  • $687 total ad spend
  • $2.66 cost per purchase
  • 1.46% click through rate

At a $2.66 cost per purchase on a category where average order values run into the hundreds of dollars, the client is buying revenue at a fraction of what it would cost anywhere else. That headroom lets them scale spend aggressively without touching profitability.

**Why It Worked ** Product feed quality is where most Shopping accounts leak money. We cleaned the feed so products showed up for the right searches and stopped showing up for the wrong ones. Conversion tracking captured actual sales rather than proxy metrics, which meant every optimization decision reflected real business impact. And by segmenting Shopping campaigns by product priority we forced Google to spend where the returns were strongest.
